Absolutely--you hit the nail on the head.

As for the last dichotomy--looking good v. feeling good...I don't think those have to be opposed. In fact, I think people who feel good, who are comfortable in their own skin, look good. Hotness comes from so much more than your physical characteristics--I think hotness comes from being a cool person, which is inevitably expressed through the medium of your body (because everything you are on this world is expressed through the medium of your body). Hrm it's late and the words aren't quite coming together lol. I mean that...I don't think we can really separate ourselves from our bodies; we ARE our bodies (at least so long as we are on this earth); if you, as a human being, are hot, then your body is hot too.Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03934781881677268471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972023532511487084.post-48254511636570235472010-03-07T20:01:57.528-08:002010-03-07T20:01:57.528-08:00Kate-- You are on my Google Reader but I put your ...Kate-- You are on my Google Reader but I put your post aside to read alone. I think you and I are a lot alike, in more ways than both being intensely hot fat girls :-).

I'm on a diet program now that recently put me on a "7-day break". Which was basically a little grapefruit, mixed greens, 1/2 c. cooked veggie, lots of water, and, here's the kicker, 14 oz. of plain, lean, protein. Well, I'm not much of a meat eater, especially not lean...or plain. It was one of the worst weeks of my life. I was upset, moody, and most of all, physically, I felt like crap! My body was just retaining all that water and protein and I felt about 5 times heavier than I actually was. Anyway, I realized on the last couple days of the diet (after talking to a *real* doctor) that anything that makes you that miserable or feel that terrible is not good for you. Seems like a simple conclusion. If something doesn't make you feel good, don't do it. It's such a struggle to work my way through the dichotomies of image. Doing what I'm told v. doing what is right for me. Losing weight v. gaining health. Looking good v. feeling good...Megan Highfillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01483282647647173724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972023532511487084.post-22165874410268738942010-03-04T14:12:53.058-08:002010-03-04T14:12:53.058-08:00Frank, thanks so much, yes haha that would be a gr...Frank, thanks so much, yes haha that would be a great would to live in! And yeah, people of all sizes and appearances and so forth feel bad about the way they look--I used to feel so much worse about how I looked even though I was way thinner than I am now. We forget how to see our beauty, in all its imperfection and human-ness.

Betsy, thank you! That book looks amazing, I ordered a copy (my splurge for the month! lol). Sometimes I crave vegetables and have to do a double take.

One of my friends here at school works on fat studies. Did you know that NYU recently published a fat studies reader (http://www.nyupress.org/books/The_Fat_Studies_Reader-products_id-11104.html)?

Hugs,
BetsyBetsynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5972023532511487084.post-3657723771638383732010-03-02T10:14:29.852-08:002010-03-02T10:14:29.852-08:00Wow, lots of great stuff in there Kate! I think being happy and healthy are the only things one needs to worry about. Everyone is different and people just need to be accepting and tolerant. (Wouldn't that be a great world to live in!!)Frank E.noreply@blogger.com
